Top 5 Friday: Books!

I am totally copying one of my fav bloggers AnnieBlogs and her Top 5 today, but I was inspired because one of my goals of the summer is that I would read more, which I have already accomplished a lot of.  I have read 2 books so far that were for work. (Young Adult novels definitely count as work related material for me!)

Because I am a serial multi-book reader, I have about 7-10 books that I have started but not finished.  (That is the ENFP in me.)

However, I am going to tell you about 5 of them…one of them is not so fun, but I am reading it.

1. To Die For by Sandra Byrd

I have always been a fan of British Royalty and this fun fiction read is by an author that I was turned on to this last year.  This book is about a girl that is Anne Boleyn’s best friend.  I have to limit myself to reading this before bed because otherwise I wouldn’t get anything else done in the day.

2. How to Get a Date Worth Keeping by Dr. Henry Cloud

This was another recommendation by AnnieBlogs and I went out on a limb and bought it recently with some of my birthday gift cards.  (Thanks to my big brother who always either buys me books or gift cards to bookstores.)

This book….I have lots of thoughts about it and it might very well be revolutionizing my thoughts about dating, but I don’t know if I can make a judgement about it.

[I am a little afraid of blogging about being single, but it might happen sometime this summer as I read this book.  There are some challenges that the author poses and I might just be up to it! 🙂 ]

3. How People Change by Timothy S. Lane and Paul David Tripp

This was a book that was recommended by a pastor at my church and I bought it last year.  I have been reading it for about a 6 months now, picking it up when I have the chance.  I am bound and determine to finish it this summer.  As this last year and half has been a big one for change in my life, these authors give a great insight in how to make lasting changes in our spiritual life.  As I am trying to get back into it, I am learning a lot.

4. The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller

I started this book this spring, but had to return the copy to the library after a couple of friendly email reminders about how overdue it was.  (I am perpetually paying a lot of money to my library for late fees.)

Donalyn Miller was a teacher and she gives great advice for getting students to become readers.  This is a great read as I begin to think about my next year and how I can get more of my kids invested in literature.  It also reminds me that I need to read more young adult fiction.  (Those will be in a separate list!)

5. Education Research: Fundamentals for the Consumer by James H. McMillan

I will not bore you with what this book is about, but I am reading this for a class I am taking this summer.  Every week I think I am going to get a head start on the homework, but here I am on a Friday avoiding the homework by writing a blog post. (Yet, it still will be there when I am done.)

*********************
There are tons more books that I have on my list for the summer, but I would love to add more.

What are you reading this summer?  Fiction, non-fiction, spiritual, educational?

  1. Working on PreschoolWise. Just a book for parents of Preschoolers.
And, I wanted to tell you that when I'm trying to get through a book that isn't the funnest reading I put it on the back of the toilet. I'm always amazed at how fast I get through it. =)
