Today in my advanced drama class we read through a social issues play about rape and sexual assault. What is hard is that they all found it cheesy and over the top? However, many “adult” people think that doing a play about sexual assault will get people to think more about the topic. These students in my class disagree. They don’t students will listen. However, many of these students also don’t realize that relationship violence happens all the time, and they don’t understand how someone can get in that position to be abused or raped.
There are the moments when these students don’t see the big picture of life. They haven’t seen the other side of the world. They think they have an open-mind and a large worldview. But they still have a lot to learn!
It is interesting sometimes to have those teachable moments with them. I really feel like a teacher in those moments.
those are the moments that make this job worth it! keep loving those kids and pointing them to Jesus!
